Loggerhead Sea Turtle Nesting Areas
It’s that time of year.
Along the Georgia Coast, ancient rhythms are quietly unfolding.
Under the cover of darkness, loggerhead sea turtles are returning home.
Slowly and steadily they come ashore to lay the next generation.
Please give them space.
Keep beaches dark. Avoid flashlights and bright screens on the beach from dusk to dawn.
Fill in holes and remove obstacles left during the day.
Respect marked nesting areas. Do NOT enter them.
These mothers have traveled thousands of miles to be here.
Every step they take matters.
Every disturbance can mean the difference between life and loss.
Weeks from now, tiny hatchlings will rise from the sand and make their way to the ocean… guided only by the natural light of the horizon.
Artificial light can lead them the wrong way.
A moment of awareness from us can protect an entire generation.
Not all life is visible in the daylight but it is here. It is vital. And it is counting on us.
